The trade union Fórsa has said it is satisfied that the Department of Education has taken the steps necessary to minimise health risks to students and staff participating in programmes taking place this summer for children with intellectual disabilities, and for students attending disadvantaged schools.
Earlier this week the union said that in the absence of public health guidelines it did not believe it was safe for Special Needs Assistants and other members to take part.
The new guidance documents are due to be circulated to schools shortly. Fórsa said the guidance agreement included an online training presentation for all staff, advice on maintaining a two metre social distance where possible, and advice on the use of PPE.
