Sport has, quite rightly, taken a back seat for much of 2020. The ongoing coronavirus crisis has forced sporting events around the world to be put on hold, as a year that started with the promise of an Olympics and Euro 2020-filled summer has been reduced months of nothingness.
With Wimbledon cancelled as well as several Formula 1 Grands Prix and Six Nations fixtures, there is now at least the prospect of football returning in England in the next week, as leagues and cup competitions restart across Europe behind closed doors.
But with such a lack of action in 2020, the destiny of one of British sport's yearly institutions has been unclear. Because just who does deserve to be crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year for 2020?
