Jobseekers should be given free travel passes to help them find work, a report recommends today. A study by the think-tank Demos urges the move to help the unemployed find posts.
It comes in a 70-page report, 'Everyday Places: Creating strong locations to support daily life in Britain' funded by Legal & General, which found that people “feeling negative about ‘place’ is strongly linked to dissatisfaction with public transport, and lower engagement with work”.
It calls for “immediate policies to help ensure some people do not feel ‘stuck’”. The study says: “We recommend that people on jobseekers' benefits be automatically given free travel within a wide commuting area.” In a boost for the Mirror's High Street Fightback and Shop for Britain
