Glasgow slave trade streets 'renamed' by anti-racism campaigners

Anti-racism campaigners have plastered alternative names underneath Glasgow slave trade street signs. Earlier we told how a petition, launched nine months ago, gained fresh traction this week in response to the equality movement sweeping the globe.

The petition which has gained 8000 signatures is calling for name change s of Glassford Street, Buchanan Street, Ingram street and others named after Tobacco Lords who owned plantations in America and Jamaica.

Now protesters have taken matters into their own hands by putting up new street name signs around the city centre.The new street names honour prominent black activists and those who have died in police custody.Buchanan Street was renamed George Floyd Street in honour of the 46-year-old's.
