Glenboig councillor Willie Doolan has resigned from the Labour group on North Lanarkshire Council and now plans to represent his ward as an independent.He was first elected to the new ward of Gartcosh, Glenboig & Moodiesburn at the 2017 local government election, as one of the three councillors for the area.
Councillor Doolan told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser: “I felt I could better represent my constituents by sitting as an independent thatn tied to a party whip. “I’ve made the decision and will now aim to try and improve things for people locally, the people I represent.”A trade union official and community activist, Councillor Doolan is vice-chair of the authority’s regulatory committee.
