Golf chiefs are seeking to re-jig the calendar to play the Open in September and the Masters in October or November. The first big change yesterday saw the US Women’s Open re-scheduled from June to December over two courses in Houston.
And the different golf bodies and tours are now trying to piece together the jigsaw of potentially playing all four Majors and the Ryder Cup in a late-season feast of golf – if the coronavirus is then under control.
The R&A confirmed this week they are “continuing to work through our options” for the Open which is scheduled to start on July 16.
These options include cancellation or to play the 149th Championship starting on September 17 at Sandwich – just eight days before the Ryder Cup.
