A Hindu Mahasabha activist, Ajay Gautam, in his personal capacity, has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court (SC) seeking immediate ban on Tablighi Jamaat.
Tablighi Jamaat, a sect of Sunni Islam, had organised a religious congregation mid-March at Delhi's Nizamuddin Markaz, a mosque located in the heart of the city.
The building where the event was organised has become one of the biggest hotspots in India, significantly adding to the number of cases across the country.
Gautam has also appealed for probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) claiming that the Islamic group was involved in a conspiracy to spread coronavirus.
