Some homeless charities have challenged official figures that show the number of rough sleepers in Dublin is down to just 25.

This is the lowest for decades and compares with a high of 184 people counted during the official rough sleeper count in November 2017.

The city council and Dublin Region Homeless Executive (DRHE) have announced the creation of over 1,000 emergency beds including more than 500 hotel and apartments to be used for cocooning and isolation since the start of the Covid 19 crisis.

A spokesperson for the homeless executive said the number of rough sleepers is around 25 - with some higher spikes - and just seven people were counted sleeping out in the core city centre by its outreach teams at 7am this morning.
