HSE's Covid 'derogation' policy for healthcare staff criticised

Almost 10,000 health care workers have contracted Covid-19, and the HSE needs to take action to address this, according to the country's largest public service union Fórsa.

In a bulletin to members, Fórsa's Head of Health Eamonn Donnelly criticised the HSE's derogation policy, which allows management to instruct staff forced to isolate on a precautionary basis due to contact with a Covid case, to return to work early in certain circumstances.

Mr Donnelly acknowledged that unions had agreed to the derogation policy, as they had to balance the need for people to be at work where they can.
