Ibec set to call for two-metre distancing to be reduced

Employers group Ibec is expected to reiterate is call for the two-week quarantine restrictions on visitors to the country to be removed when it appears before the Oireachtas Covid-19 committee later today.

The organisation is also expected to push for the replacement of the two-metre social distancing rule with a one-metre requirement.

An extensive and systematic Covid-19 track and trace programme also needs to be put in place immediately, it is believed the group will say.

Significant measures will need to be taken to protect the livelihoods of both households and businesses, get people back into jobs, and bring forward maintenance and investment projects from an extended capital plan, Ibec CEO Danny McCoy is expected to tell the committee
