New Delhi: Indian scientists have started whole genome sequencing of the novel coronavirus isolated from patients in different parts of the country to track its spread in the local population and look for any emerging mutations.
The effort is part of the large genome sequencing project, led by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) with scientists from two premier research laboratories -- Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, and Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IIGB), New Delhi.
The teams will sequence the whole genome of the virus isolated from patients across states and analyze the differences in their genetic codes.
