Narendra Damodardas Modi (born 17 September 1950) is an Indian politician serving as the 14th and current Prime Minister of India since 2014. He was the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014 and is the Member of Parliament for Varanasi. Modi is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu nationalist volunteer organisation. He is the first prime minister outside of the Indian National Congress to win two consecutive terms with a full majority and the second to complete five years in office after Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi went on air to address the nation on Tuesday and announced the extension of lockdown till 3 May.
During the address the Prime Minister also mentioned Aarogya Setu application and emphasized that all citizens should download the app to help the fight against Covid-19.
Here we explain how the app forms a user data base to create a network of information that can alert citizens and government of potential victims of the coronavirus.
The application is available on both Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store. It uses location data to point out people that have come in close proximity with any Covid-19 positive patient.
