An Irishman living in the US has spoken of his heartbreak after his mother died from Covid-19 in Ireland. Speaking on RTÉ's Liveline, Brian Connell said: "My instincts tell me to get a bag and head for the airport to be with my family at this time but that's not going to happen." Brian lives in New Jersey with his wife and three children (aged 18, 21 and 23).
He owns three pubs in New York but had to lay off 200 staff on 16 March. "Sadly this damned virus Covid-19 took our mother Angela yesterday; she was in Marymount Nursing Home in Lucan. "I'm hunkered down here in New Jersey while my five beautiful sisters deal with matters at home." Brian explained that his mother tested positive with Covid-19 this day last week.
