The Duchess of Cornwall today said a convention centre's transformation into a huge field hospital for hundreds of coronavirus patients has 'brought light to a dark time'.
The NHS Nightingale Hospital North West at the Manchester Central Convention Complex was officially opened today. The field hospital was built in just two weeks and has already started treating COVID-19 patients from across the region.
Initially 36 beds will be available, but the hospital could treat up to 750 patients who will be in the process of being 'stepped-down' from ICU and critical care beds at neighbouring hospitals.
Speaking over video link from her Scottish home at Birkhall, the Duchess thanked everyone who has helped build the new facility and everyone who
