More than 192 donations have been made so far at the blood donor centres in Manchester city centre and on Plymouth Grove.Researchers are investigating whether transfusions of blood plasma could speed up a patient's recovery from COVID-19 and increase their chances of survival.

NHS Blood and Transplant is leading the major coronavirus treatment trial which if successful, will lead to the widespread use of the treatment in hospitals.

Experts believe that the antibody rich plasma of people who have recovered can be transfused into people who are struggling to develop their own immune response.
