Kate Garraway has issued a worrying update on her husband Derek Draper's ongoing health.The 56-year-old admitted he is "not doing great" following his battle with long Covid after he was first hospitalised back in March 2020.The Good Morning Britain star has been giving regular updates on her beloved partner since he was in a medically induced coma after fighting off the virus.
He has been having debilitating symptoms including headaches and breathlessness ever since.His health has only declined in recent months having been readmitted to hospital several times since he was discharged on a trial basis in April 2021 when he suffered numerous health issues, including kidney failure, brain inflammation and liver damage.Kate issued the health update during the Pride of Britain awards which were held in London over the weekend.
She told the Metro at the event on Sunday: "He’s not doing great, to be honest. But the battle goes on."The 56-year-old ITV presenter also said, according to reports in the Mirror, she had secured a meeting with Steve Barclay after a recent on-air plea to speak to the health secretary privately about the people stuck in the healthcare system long term."I’d like to come and talk to you – not about Derek by the way, this is not me trying to get something for him," she tearfully told him during the virtual interview. "This is about representing millions of people across the country who, like me, in one hand feel like they’re holding the life of their loved one and in the other hand punching away at a system and it isn’t about money."
