Kobe and Gigi Bryant award announced for women in basketball as teen is made honorary WNBA draft

The Kobe & Gigi Bryant WNBA Advocacy Award has been announced to celebrate women and girls in basketball. The new annual award is in honour of NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna (Gigi), who tragically died in a helicopter crash in January.
Kobe was a staunch supporter of the Women’s National Basketball Association, while Gianna was also a lover of basketball. The award will ‘recognise an individual or group who has made significant contributions to the visibility, perception and advancement of women’s and girls’ basketball at all levels’.
Kobe’s widow Vanessa shared the news on her Instagram on Friday. She will help choose who gets the accolade and will present it at the NBA All-Star 2021 in Indianapolis.
