Landlord fined for opening pub to his friends during coronavirus lockdown

A town councillor who is also a landlord opened his pub to friends despite the government ordering all pubs to close amid the worsening coronavirus pandemic.

Cllr Richard Pearce, who is a St Clears town councillor and landlord of the Santa Clara Inn, has been fined by police following the boozy session.

He was given a fixed penalty notice after people were found inside the pub on Sunday, March 29. Officers from Dyfed-Powys Police arrived at the Santa Clara Inn after receiving a call from a member of the public and told those inside to leave.

On March 20, the UK Government instructed all pubs to close due to the coronavirus pandemic. On March 23 the government also banned gatherings of people who are not from the same household.
