Black Lives Matter movement, Juneteenth 2020 feels even more poignant than in recent years.Stars such as Michelle Obama, Selena Gomez, Lizzo, Taylor Swift and Usher have used their platforms to honor the date and educate their followers about it’s significance.Juneteenth – aka June 19 – is the date which marks the official end of slavery in the USA, when black people in Texas finally learned slavery had been abolished in 1865.
And this year has seen an increased in calls for the day to become a national holiday, while others are using the day to encourage people to support Black businesses.Michelle Obama took to Twitter and wrote: ‘Most of us were taught that slavery came to an end when President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
