GENEVA : The head of the World Health Organization appealed for a stronger attack against the coronavirus on a webcast with world leaders, trying to rally support while US President Donald Trump and others question the need for the extreme steps the agency has championed.
Shutdowns will slow the pandemic, but they won’t extinguish it, so countries also need to adopt even more aggressive measures to eradicate the virus, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on a private video-conference Thursday.
He urged nations to remove export bans on medical equipment and ensure fair distribution, as well as to test every suspected case, isolate those infected and trace all of their contacts.
