The summer series of Love Island has been thrown into doubt after its creator admitted it wouldn't be a good idea to have singletons 'slathering over each other' on screen.

Kevin Lygo, head of ITV, admitted to feeling ‘uneasy’ the idea of the islanders in close proximity to one another while the rest of the country is still experiencing lockdown.

The series, which airs on ITV2, usually kicks off in June and sees a group of Islanders looking for love move into a Mallorcan villa for a summer of sun, fun and romance.

As well as the islanders, a 200-strong TV crew is also needed to make the programme, which usually airs for around seven or eight weeks.
