Man in extremely critical condition after a shooting in North Philadelphia, police say

ELIZABETH, N.J. - A New Jersey man who killed his ex-girlfriend and drove their toddler son to Tennessee with her body in the trunk last July has been sentenced to 30 years in prison. Tyler Rios pleaded guilty in April to aggravated manslaughter and desecrating human remains in the death of 24-year-old Yasemin Uyar. The Union County Prosecutor's Office in New Jersey says Rios killed Uyar in her Rahway home, then fled with their 2-year-old son. The boy eventually was found unharmed at a hotel in Monterey, Tennessee. Uyar's body was found nearby in a wooded area off Interstate 40.

Police are investigating a shooting that left a 65-year-old man in critical condition in Kensington.  PHILADELPHIA - A 65-year-old man is in critical condition after he was found shot in Kensington, police say. According to authorities, the shooting happened on the 3600 block of Kensington Avenue just after 1:30 a.m.

Police are investigating after a man was fatally shot in North Philadelphia.  PHILADELPHIA - Investigators with the Philadelphia Police Department are looking into the fatal shooting of a man on Tuesday night. Police say gunshots were reported on the 100 block of W Indiana Avenue. Officers found a 47-year-old man on the ground with gunshot wounds to the back and arm, according to authorities. Officials say police rushed him to Temple Hospital, but he was pronounced dead at 11:20 p.m. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESTwo spent shell casings were discovered at the crime scene, police say. According to authorities, investigators believe he may have been targeted. The investigation is active and ongoing.

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - The Central Bucks School Board on Tuesday approved a new policy change that allows them to control which books and materials are allowed in their libraries based on sexual content.The school board voted to have the right to ban books with sexualized content with "explicit written descriptions of sexual acts."The board said it does not plan to remove any books currently in the library, but will control new material in the future.Critics, including the ACLU, say the policy would begin a wave of books to be banned, especially books targeting LGBT+ students.Some spoke in favor of the change, but most students and parents pleaded with the board before the vote not to pass the new policy.At least 1 school board members expressed legal concerns..saying the policy could violate 1st Amendment rights to free speech.Central Bucks School District is same district that has come under fire recently for banning the pride flag in classrooms.

UPPER MERION, Pa. - Police are searching for a group of young men who they say tried to steal two purses in the parking lot of King of Prussia Mall and fled in a carjacked vehicle. The Upper Merion Police Department said at least two attempted thefts happened in the mall parking lot around 9 p.m. Monday. A woman reported that she was getting into her car when she was approached by a young man who tried to forcibly take her purse, according to police. The woman told officers that a red sedan with at least two others inside parked behind her during the attempted theft. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESWhile responding officers were talking to the victim, police were approached by another woman who said someone in a passing red sedan tried to steal her purse. The second victim told police the attempted theft happened in the parking lot near the Neiman Marcus store. Authorities used surveillance footage to discover that the vehicle, a red 2010 Toyota Corolla, was reported stolen earlier in the day during a carjacking in Philadelphia. The Upper Merion Police Department shared photos of the suspects and the vehicle.
