More than 28,000 people have now died in the UK after contracting coronavirus

The number of people who have died in the UK after contracting coronavirus is now 28,131. The death toll is up by 621 from 27,510 at the same point yesterday (Friday), according to the latest update from the Department of Health.

A total of 825,946 people have been tested of which 182,260 tested positive - an increase of 4,806 at the same time yesterday.

The daily death toll now includes people who have died in hospitals, care homes and the wider community after the government changed the way they reported figures earlier this week.

NHS England announced 370 new deaths of people who tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 20,853.
