An NHS nurse with a rare cancer who had planned operations cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic is finally going under the knife tomorrow after £50,000 was raised for her in an online appeal.
Heather Wilson, aged 55, was told she may have to wait six months for treatment for her appendix cancer if she didn't pay for surgery privately.
Her daughter Amie created a GoFundMe appeal and, despite the financial uncertainty many currently face, the £50,000 target was met within days.
NHS had to cancel all routine surgery for the foreseeable future after the Covid-19 pandemic was declared. But now Heather is going to have the potentially life-saving operation at a specialist centre in Birmingham on Sunday, reports Grimsby Live.
