Nicola Sturgeon confirms 57 coronavirus deaths in Scotland amid 685 new cases

coronavirus in the last 24 hours.The First Minister announced that a further 685 positive cases have been detected overnight, bringing the total to 194,954.The Scottish death toll now stands at 6,885 since the start of the pandemic last March.

A total of 1,261 patients are currently being treated in hospital for the deadly virus with 95 in intensive care.This week Nicola Sturgeon confirmed schools will start to open for younger children from February 22.The phased return was confirmed for P1-3 in a "trade off" with lockdown across Scotland.The country has endured seven gruelling weeks of lockdown since Christmas with non-essential shops shut, almost all hospitality businesses closed and a ban on travelling outwith local council.
