NICOLA Sturgeon has been urged to back the suspension of whisky production to protect staff from Coronavirus.The GMB trade union said the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA), an industry body, wants to keep producing goods that are not essential in the fight against COVID-19.In updated guidance, the Scottish Government advised all business premises to close unless they were “essential” to the health and welfare of the country.Other exemptions apply to companies that can uphold social distancing advice.In a letter to the First Minister, GMB Scotland Organiser Keir Greenaway wrote: “GMB Scotland is aware that the Whisky and Spirits sector employers have been lobbying Scottish Government through the Scottish Whisky Association to demand they stay
