UK Government-backed furlough scheme to help them get through the economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Almost nine million workers are on furlough, with the UK Government paying for up to 80 per cent of an employee's salary while they stay at home.
In total, 8.9 million workers have been furloughed since the scheme launched in mid-March and it has cost the UK Government £19.6 billion to date.
Businesses have until Wednesday, June 10 to tell their employees who will be furloughed, if they haven't been placed on leave already - or they won’t be able to claim for them after June 30.
