COLOMBO (News 1st) – Sri Lanka's State Agriculture Minister told Parliament that the treasury is yet to release funds to compensate farmers who were affected following the use of Organic Fertilizer.Mohan Priyadarshana de Silva, the State Minister of Agriculture informed the Parliament that a request was made to the Treasury to release the funds to pay the necessary compensation to the farmers whose harvest dropped due to the use of organic fertilizer.
He told the Parliament that the funds are yet to be released by the Treasury.His comments were in reponse to the concerns raised by SJB MP Ajith Mannappruma in Parliament on Wednesday (19).The Opposition MP alleged that private mill owners were extorting the paddy farmers, and the farmers in turn have been rendered helpless..
