North Korea reports first COVID-19 case

North Korea has reported what it says is its first suspected case of the coronavirus. The country's official news agency, KCNA, described the case as a defector who had left for South Korea three years ago and then returned illegally by crossing the demarcation line between North and South Korea.

But there have been no reports in South Korea of anyone leaving through what is one of the world's most secure borders, replete with minefields and guard posts.

North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, convened an emergency politburo meeting on Saturday to implement a "maximum emergency system and issue a top-class alert" to contain the virus, according to the KCNA.
