The leaders of the three Coalition parties are due to meet the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) today to discuss the Omicron variant and the wider Covid situation.

NPHET will be assessing the guidance it received from its epidemiological team, which has been monitoring the variant situation across Europe this weekend.

The build-up to today's meeting between the Coalition leaders and Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has been marked by appeals for people to continue to abide by public health advice.

In a statement last night, the CMO remarked that while there is much attention on new variants, the Delta variant remains too high, with widespread infection in the community.

PHILADELPHIA - No one was injured after a gunman opened fire on a Philadelphia police officer during a shootout Wednesday afternoon in Germantown.Philadelphia Police Sergeant Eric Gripp told reporters that two plainclothes officers in an unmarked car were patrolling the 4800 block of Keyser Street around 2 p.m. when they came upon a shootout between a 23-year-old and a 20-year-old.
