Oldham coronavirus spike won't be over for weeks, warns health chief - as new figures show ANOTHER rise in infections

Oldham has seen a further 127 cases of coronavirus in the last seven days as it's revealed chiefs are preparing to take test and trace into their own hands with a local system to contain infections.Cabinet member for Covid-19 recovery, Coun Arooj Shah has warned they are not expecting to see a drop in the numbers of infections in the borough for ‘weeks’.In a move similar to other local authorities like Blackburn with Darwen, Oldham is now working with Public Health England to set up its own localised version of the test and trace system to plug gaps within the national scheme.Currently they have a system in place so that if someone tests positive, their GP is alerted who will then ring them directly – often before an official contact tracer.
