One in six Covid-19 deaths in Greater Manchester has been in a care home, new figures released today show. In the week leading up to April 10, 116 care home residents died with coronavirus.
The numbers, from the Office for National Statistics, begin to give a better indication of the true scale of the region's death toll.
Salford saw the biggest proportion of deaths taking place in care homes, with 46 out of 130 - one of the highest proportions in England and Wales.
In Stockport 15 people died in care homes, and there were also 10 care home deaths in Manchester, nine in Bolton and eight in Oldham.
