PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia police officer has been released from the hospital following a shooting last week that also left a hammer-wielding suspect dead.
The incident occurred on October 26th when police responded to the 5700 block of Overbrook Avenue for a report of a person with a weapon inside the basement of a home when they were confronted by a man who was armed with a hammer and pickaxe.
During the standoff with the suspect and a subsequent altercation with the suspect, police had to pull both their tasers and their actual handguns.
At some point, while trying to apprehend the suspect, a 35-year-old officer, Julian Jones, was shot in the leg. He was said to be conscious at the time of the shooting and was listed in stable.
