The Union Cabinet has approved an ordinance amending the salary, pension and allowances of members of the Parliamen with effect from 1 April 2020, Union minister Prakash Javadekar said today.
All Members of Parliament (MPs), including the Prime Minister and his Council of Ministers, would be taking a 30 per cent salary cut due to the impact of the novel coronavirus.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu and all state governors have also voluntarily decided to take a pay cut.
The minister said the cabinet approved an ordinance amending the Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament Act, 1954 reducing allowances and pension by 30 pet cent from April 1 2020 for one year.
