Greater Manchester Police officers have done their best to enforce new coronavirus legislation while being subjected to 'shocking' attacks, the chief constable.

Ian Hopkins says the force's response to people breaching the lockdown has been 'very measured', with only 38 fixed penalty notices issued so far.

Most of those who have been fined are young men between the ages of 18 and 24, with some having previous convictions for knife crime, robbery and drug possession.

A further 14 arrests were made by GMP after a strike in Salford unearthed cannabis farms, bullets, drugs and stolen vehicles.
