A base news release said Fort Gordon’s Department of Emergency Services and Emergency Medical Services responded immediately.An Army spokesperson initially told FOX News ten soldiers were injured, but later said one of the soldiers had passed away from those injuries."It is with a heavy heart Fort Gordon confirms one of the soldiers in the lightning strike this afternoon succumbed to their injuries," said Fort Gordon’s Deputy Public Affairs Officer Anne Bowman.The soldier’s identity will not be released until his family is notified, Bowman said.Pentagon officials say the soldiers were treated at the medical center.Fort Gordon has not released specifics on the condition of the nine other injured soldiers.

A so-called fetal heartbeat law took effect in Ohio last month after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v.

BUTTS COUNTY, Ga. - A convicted sex offender is back behind bars after deputies say he tried to contact a minor while out on parole.Officials say nearly one month ago, Christopher Baxter was released on parole from the Georgia Department of Corrections and registered as a sex offender in Butts County.On Tuesday, The Butts County Sheriff's Office says investigators monitoring Baxter arrested him again.According to the sheriff, Baxter is accused of contacting a female minor in another state and was trying to get inappropriate pictures of her. "Investigator Riley and Sergeant Munger’s quick action and good work has successfully placed this predator back behind bars, where he belongs," Sheriff Gary Long said. "I hope he spends the rest of his natural-born life caged, where he is no longer allowed access to another innocent child."Court records show Baxter had been convicted in 2019 for sexual battery of a victim under the age of 16 and child molestation.

UPPER MACUNGIE, Pa. - Officers in Pennsylvania shot and killed a snake after they say it wrapped itself around a man's neck Wednesday afternoon. Police from the Upper Macungie Township Police Department were called to a home on the 1400 block of Church Street for reports of a man in cardiac arrest. When officers arrived they found a 28-year-old man lying on the floor with the mid-section of a snake wrapped around his neck, according to police. An officer managed to shoot the 15-foot-long snake in the head and pull the man to safety, police said. The man received emergency medical treatment and was taken to a local hospital in unknown condition.

PHILADELPHIA - A woman is in police custody following the death of a three-year-old girl that was in her care, according to the woman's own attorney. On Tuesday, July 12, Philadelphia police responded to the 2600 block of Holbrook Street for a hospital case. CAMDEN, N.J. - Detectives in Camden are investigating a deadly shooting of a 40-year-old man.Officials with the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Camden County Police say officers were called to Fortuna Grocery at Louis Street and Kaighn Avenue Tuesday morning, around 11, after multiple 911 calls of a robbery.Responding officers found a 40-year-old man suffering from several gunshot wounds inside the store when they arrived.The victim, identified as Luis Morales, was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he died a short time later.An investigation into possible motives is active. PHILADELPHIA - An arrest has yet to be made after police say a baby boy died in East Germantown earlier this month.Police responded to a call for an unresponsive child on the 800 block of East Locust Street on July 3.The 9-month-old was transported to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, where he was initially listed in critical condition.Ten days later the baby was pronounced dead.

DENVER - A Colorado couple’s Ring camera captured the frightening moments when they were followed home and approached by a man at their front door, who pulled out a gun and pointed it at them before fleeing. Minutes later, the suspect and a female accomplice are believed to have robbed another person at gunpoint, according to authorities. A portion of the incident, reported on July 15 in the Denver suburb of Wheat Ridge, was caught on video and shared by the local police department. Authorities said the couple was walking home that day when they were followed by the male and female.The suspects followed the couple to their front door, then the male pulled a gun out and pointed it in their faces, according to the Wheat Ridge Police Department.

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating after an off-duty corrections officer was carjacked at gunpoint and shot at the alleged carjacker in Feltonville on Monday night. According to Chief Inspector Scott Small, officers with the 25th District received a 911 call for a robbery and gunshots on the 200 block of E Roosevelt Boulevard around 11 p.m. When officers arrived on location, they were met by an off-duty corrections officer, 59, who said he was leaving a friend's house and getting into his Toyota Avalon when he was approached by a man with a gun who pulled him out of the car, police say. According to authorities, the alleged carjacker got into the driver's seat of the car and began to drive away as the off-duty corrections officer fired five shots at the suspect and the car. The suspect sped off in the car and officers located it about 25 minutes later on the 4900 block of Bingham Street, officials say. Small says the vehicle was found with five bullet holes in it and fresh blood inside the car. Authorities say officers were also notified that a 21-year-old shooting victim with a gunshot wound in each arm showed up for treatment at Temple Hospital. Small says there is a possibility that the shooting victim may be the alleged carjacker and authorities are investigating. According to police, the off-duty officer said the suspect was wearing a surgical mask and a hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head.

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department is grieving the loss of one of their own after an off-duty officer was killed in a crash in Somerton on Thursday. Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small says just before midnight, officers in the 7th District received numerous calls about a crash at the intersection of Bustleton Avenue and Rennard Street. According to authorities, when officers and medics arrived on scene, they found two vehicles involved in the crash. A Philadelphia police officer was killed in a crash while on his way home from work, authorities say. FOX 29's Steve Keeley has the latest.A 50-year-old man driving a Hyundai was transported to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival, authorities say. The vehicle that struck the officer's car was a BMW with an 18-year-old driver and two teenage passengers, police say. None of the individuals in the BMW were injured and they denied medical treatment, according to officials. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESInvestigators say the Hyundai was traveling west on Rennard Street crossing Bustelon Avenue as the BMW was going south on Bustleton Avenue. The BMW struck the passenger side of the Hyundai, jumped the curb and then struck a tree, per authorities. Police say a witness spoke to accident investigators and say the BMW was traveling at a high rate of speed. Small says through the investigation,  police learned the driver of the Hyundai was an active Philadelphia police officer who had just finished the night shift and was driving home in his personal vehicle. The officer was a 27-year veteran with the Philadelphia Police Department, according to Small. "It's a real tragedy," Small said.

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that killed a teenager and injured another person in West Philadelphia. According to Chief Inspector Scott Small, the incident happened just after 11 p.m. on Wednesday night. Officers with the 16th District and fire department paramedics received multiple 911 calls for a report of a car crash on the 800 block of N 44th Street, authorities say. Small says first responders found a 16-year-old severely injured and a 20-year-old with injuries on the sidewalk. The 16-year-old was taken to a local hospital, but he did not survive, according to police. Authorities say the 20-year-old was taken to the hospital and placed in stable condition with a possible broken leg. Investigators say a 27-year-old was driving a Toyota Highlander that crashed into the two pedestrians. Small says the driver has cuts and bruises and is suspected to be impaired.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say 40 shots were fired Wednesday night in a triple shooting that erupted between at least two shooters. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 4200 block of Lancaster Avenue just before 9:30 p.m. for reports of a shooting. Police found a 36-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man both shot in the leg.
