Marilyn Monroe image by Andy Warhol could set record at auction
NEW YORK - One of Andy Warhol's iconic paintings of Marilyn Monroe is coming to auction — and Christie's auction house has estimated the sale price could hit around $200 million. The silkscreen image is known as "Shot Sage Blue Marilyn," a close-up of Monroe with her hair in yellow, her eyeshadow blue, and her lips red. It is slated to be part of a week of sales in May, said Christie's Alex Rotter, who called it "one of the most significant paintings to come to auction in a generation."If the 1964 painting does sell for the estimate, it would become the most expensive 20th-century artwork to be auctioned, Christie's said."When a painting like this comes to auction, it changes the market not only for Warhol but it changes the market itself," Rotter said.Get breaking news alerts in the free FOX5NY News app | Sign up for FOX 5 email newslettersThe proceeds of the sale would go to the Thomas and Doris Ammann Foundation Zurich, which is putting the painting up for auction.

BA.2 could mean new COVID-19 wave: scientists
COVID-19 wastewater numbers could indicate another pandemic wave is forming in Saskatchewan. But how bad that wave becomes, a doctor said, depends on how the public responds — especially since the health-care system is already strained.“By seeing an increase happening right now, we will be tipping the health-care system into that strain level again,” epidemiologist and Saskatchewan Health Agency senior interim public health officer Dr. Cory Neudorf told Global News.

Dropped mask mandates: Public-facing workers face hostility, health risks
COVID-19 public health restrictions. As of March 21, only Quebec, P.E.I., the Northwest Territories and Nunavut still have mask mandates in place, though there are plans for those policies to expire soon.By the end of April, it’s possible that no Canadian province or territory will have a mask mandate in effect, leaving public-facing workers with concerns about their workplaces. For those who regularly interact with the public, the uncertainty of each unmasked interaction comes with an understandable fear.

A Drop of Hope: motivating vaccination through art and poetry
Vaccination has been an instrumental tool in the global fight against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. As of 20 December 2021, globally 4.385 billion persons were vaccinated with at least one dose, which is less than 60% of the world’s population. [i] While most of the world’s population is deprived of equitable access to vaccination, in some countries, including the United Kingdom, vaccine hesitancy remains a barrier to achieving high vaccination rates. The Francis Crick Institute partnered with London-based Poet In the City to introduce a novel approach to encourage vaccination through art and poetry. After being vaccinated, people share their immediate experiences on postcards. These personal expressions are transformed into poetry by Poet In the City’s creative artists. The resulting poetry is displayed outside the centre to reduce fear and concerns linked to the vaccines and educate the public on the benefits of vaccination as perceived by peers. The initiative also provides gratification to the vaccinated population as it shares their voices and recognizes their contribution to the wider community and global scientific effort.

Being told you look just like your mum might well be a welcome comment (or not!) but there’s so much more to our genetic inheritance than things like the colour of our eyes or the shape of our nose.
