Lockdown animal lovers looking to get a new pet have triggered a national puppy shortage. Forget loo roll, pasta and hand sanitiser - it's dogs that are now high in demand with people facing waits of up to a year for for a young canine companion.
Demand has rocketed as families battle the boredom of being stuck indoors amid the coronavirus pandemic. Now the Kennel Club is advising there is a 12-month wait for some breeds, Mail Online reports.
The organisation said the waiting list is four times longer than normal and as a result, prices are being forced up. Visits to its online 'find a puppy' tool – which puts breeders in touch with buyers – are also up 174% on the same time last year.
