Jansin Turgut admits he may get upset on this week’s anniversary of the day he tried to take his own life. The former Hull and Salford forward almost succeeded, having been left with a catastrophic list of broken bones after falling from the roof of a car park in Ibiza.

He was left with both legs broken, a smashed pelvis, five fractured vertebrae in his lower back and every bone in his face broken as the worst of his injuries.

But unlike the dark times that led to that dreadful attempt, Turgut is now ­emotionally and mentally strong enough to cope. And not just cope.

The horrific lessons he has learned, and the pain he has gone through, have turned him into an impressive campaigner for mental health.
