care home resident celebrated her 104th birthday yesterday with the best birthday gift ever – the Covid-19 vaccine.As the Government roll-out of the jab arrived at care homes yesterday, Catherine Thom was one of the first, and certainly one of the oldest, to get it.Record reader Cathy has found lockdown difficult as she has been separated from her loving family and she couldn’t wait to get her jab in the hope it will hasten the end of the pandemic and allow her more visits from those she loves.Cathy had lived alone in a house in Coatbridge where she had stayed since her own mother died but, after a fall when she was 102, Cathy went into Kirknowe Care Home in Wishaw, Lanarkshire.She worked as a nanny for most of her life, raising three.
