Sports organisations have given an overall welcome to news that outdoor activities, including inter-county GAA training and under-age non-contact group training, can resume next month.
On 19 April will see elite GAA taking place as well as activity for high-performing athletes, as approved by Sport Ireland, while on 26 April outdoor sports facilities will reopen including golf and tennis clubs as well as training for underage teams in pods of 15 or less.
This will allow juvenile soccer, GAA and athletics training, among others, for participants who have been deprived of all but solo training since Christmas and had to endure truncated seasons of sport in 2020.
