Supermarkets start blocking off non-essential items after strict new limits introduced

lockdown. The Government yesterday announced nationwide restrictions after a new, more infectious strain of Covid-19 was discovered.

People were initially going to be allowed to celebrate Christmas and travel between December 23-27. However, now only two households will be able to meet on Christmas Day.All non-essential retail shops have been closed, and the Government has listed what supermarkets are permitted to sell.

Some items were blocked off on Sunday, December 20, as the new restrictions came into force, Wales Online reports. In one Asda in Cardiff, aisles selling toys, Christmas decorations, gifts and candles were crowded with other products.
