A 14-year-old boy has been charged after a woman was spat at and coughed on in Tameside. The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with one count of section 39 assault.

He is due to appear at Tameside Youth Court on Tuesday April 7, Greater Manchester Police said. The charge comes after police were called shortly regarding an incident in Ashton-under-Lyne just before 8.30pm on Tuesday March 17.

It was reported that a boy had been coughing and shouting ‘Coronavirus’ at a woman in the town centre. A 14-year-old boy was later arrested on suspicion of section 39 assault.
