Important decisions on spending and planning will be made without ‘any real scrutiny’ during the coronavirus crisis under temporary powers approved by Manchester council.
Changes to the constitution will see several senior councillors and officers given greater control as the pandemic ‘disrupts’ everyday decision-making.
The council will suspend all scrutiny committees for the foreseeable future having already moved most meetings to webcast-only.
Plans were approved today at the last town hall meeting until the nationwide lockdown is relaxed, with councillors observing social distancing by sitting apart in the council chamber.
