Tesco 'chaos' amid coronavirus crisis - long queues and 'empty shelves' as NHS workers try to get supplies during dedicated shopping hour

This morning (Sunday), supermarkets opened their doors specially for NHS workers, who were able to head in an hour early to shop - as a thank you for their hard work during the coronavirus pandemic.

Long queues of workers formed. Some said the crowds were as big as they have been in recent days - despite the hour being dedicated to NHS staff.

Medics and other healthcare professionals have struggled to get essentials in recent days amid stockpiling and panic buying.

Pictures of crowds outside stores have flooded social media - and it was no different on Sunday morning. One Manchester Evening News reader - an NHS worker - said: "I’ve just tried to go to Burnage Tesco for the NHS early shop.
