The Queen thanks the NHS, key workers and ‘everyone staying at home’ in coronavirus speech

The Queen has praised NHS staff, key workers and those who are staying indoors in a historical speech about the coronavirus pandemic.The 93 year old monarch looked back at the first broadcast she made as a child, alongside her sister Princess Margaret during the Second World War, and likened being in lockdown to the ordeal evacuees went through during the war.

In the historic address, Queen Elizabeth spoke from Windsor Castle to people across the country who tuned in to watch her speech.

She said: “I am speaking to you at what I know is an increasingly challenging time. A time of disruption in the life of our country: a disruption that has brought grief to some, financial difficulties to many, and enormous changes to the daily lives of us.
