For the latest news from in and around Wigan sign up to the MyWigan newsletter hereThousands of council properties in Wigan have not had a gas safety check since the coronavirus crisis started due to a backlog of inspections – but tenants are reluctant to let inspectors into their homes during the lockdown.Only 90 pc of gas safety certificates have been completed on time, which means around 2,300 council homes do not have an up-to-date certificate.It comes after Wigan council's gas servicing contract was suspended for more than six weeks at the start of the pandemic, creating a backlog of work.But inspectors have encountered difficulties gaining access to properties.Heather Coombs, strategic manager for buildings and facilities management.
