TikTok has become the app of choice during the coronavirus pandemic. The social networking service allows users to watch, create and share videos with millions of people.

Many have used the time while staying at home to learn dances, lip-sync to popular songs and watch videos. The platform is only for people aged 13 or over, but now TikTok has introduced a minimum age requirement of 16 for use of its direct messaging feature.

The changes will come into effect on April 30, when those who don’t meet the criteria will no longer be able to access direct messages.

The video-sharing platform said it has implemented this feature as part of efforts to boost safety as usage increases during the coronavirus lockdown.
