Armed police officers cordoned off Tower Bridge in east London to investigate a possible suspicious package. The 125-year-old landmark over the River Thames was closed for about an hour before officers determined the package did not pose a threat and the scene was cleared.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: "Police attended Tower Bridge at 12.18pm to reports of a possible suspicious package. "The bridge was closed while the package was examined and was found to be non suspicious. "The bridge has now re-opened." Photos posted on social media show the iconic bridge taped off with armed police and several vehicles on scene.
