Trump to announce guidelines on reopening economy

The US President Donald Trump is due to announce new guidelines today for governors to start the process of reopening their states.

The plan would see the easing of restrictions in areas with lower numbers of coronavirus cases but the ultimate decision will remain with individual governors.

The numbers of coronavirus cases and deaths are continuing to rise in the US but last night President Donald Trump claimed that America was "passed the peak" of new infections.

Today he will unveil a set of guidelines on reopening the country but it will be up to individual governors to lift restrictions in their states.
